There is the above youtube clip comparing it to the ATX at the beach and it supposedly didn't pick up a thin chain that the others hit on. You have documented the ATX as a great machine when submerged, but it too expensive to have for a couple of beach trips a year, if somenody chose the SDC over the ATX for gold. My TDI, with the GB off, is probably the best balance between depth and portability around in a PI at the beach, but it isn't and I guess never will be, waterproof. I had a DF PI and it was fine in the water, but the coil made it a nose heavy beast out of the water. Some of these folks will want to try them at the beach - including me if I get one. Stories like this will, I think sell a number of SDC's to folks for whom it will be their first (or only) PI detector.

Reading the forums from OZ, i an hearing of folks who having searched gor gold for a year or so with other machines, including specifically the SD and GPX series - who get an SDC and promptly find gold their first time out. The reason I asked about the SDC at the beach was that I can see a lot of SDC buyers having it as their only gold detector or at least their only PI gold detector.

Maybe it's location, location, location - work, work,work. I have never seen anyone post the string of spectacular finds that he has. He must be the luckiest beach hunter in the world. If you do your research in advance, I am sure you'll like this place and enjoy your visit.I saw the posts by Gary Drayton. We intentionally visited during their bluegrass and BBQ festival so there were some great bluegrass acts to catch during our visit. The staff we encountered were all very friendly and helpful. (They have a place where you can rent electric scooters just before the entrance.) The park itself is unique with numerous rides, shops, and eating venues throughout the park.

Once you get near the entrance of the park, you need to evaluate you and the members of your party's level of mobility as the entire park is on a hillside with lots of inclines/declines and stairs to negotiate. Additional negatives are the parking rows are not numbered/labeled and there is minimal to no signage to tell you where things like the handicapped parking or shuttle pickup areas are. So, if you can't figure out where the shuttles pick up (which we couldn't) then you have to walk uphill to the park entrance. Some negatives are that there is limited handicapped parking capacity and the parking lot is on a hillside. A plus is that those with a handicapped placard/plate can park for free. Getting into the parking lot can be a little frustrating as there is only one way into the the entry gates. My wife and I had been to Silver Dollar City many years ago with my parents and we decided to pay it a visit recently.
